In 1997 I started to look for a counterbalance to my job, and didn’t want to do another “sport” but was rather looking for something with content. I tried various Budo disciplines like Karate-Do, Judo or Jiu-Jitsu but stayed with Aikido because the wholeness of this martial art, and it’s balance of physical and mental parts, convinced me. One can train with or without weapons or in combination of both, and I notice that in different phases of life, different aspects of Aikido are important and can be improved. I plan and hope to being able to practice this fascinating art up to high age, continuing to learn my whole life.
